A creative idea brilliantly executed.

Divine Design is the West Coast’s premiere fashion and home shopping event. Leading designers donate gorgeous fashions, furniture, beauty and gift items that are sold 50%-90% off retail.

100% of proceeds from the sale directly benefit Project Angel Food’s mission to nourish the body and spirit of men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-threatening illnesses. Project Angel Food is the only organization serving this need throughout Los Angeles County.

Thanks to a devoted corps of volunteers, every day Project Angel Food cooks and delivers more than 1,400 to people in need throughout the LA community.

“Strida foldable bikes are perfect for any city dweller. Inside a triangular frame of lightweight aluminum, power is transferred to the rear wheels via a silent clean Kevlar belt. The genius of the triangular frame is that it can fold. In five seconds, you have a light, compact form that you can easily wheel before you, stow in a closet, load in your car or take on the train. With no external grease to soil your clothes, Strida makes daily commuting fun and practical. One size fits all – seat is adjustable. Only weighs 22lbs. Shipping requires signature upon delivery. Get yours today.”

Guest designers Kat Tushim and David Head of Superkonductor have created some fun new skateboards just in time for your holiday shopping. I’ve thrown in a design myself as well.

Gorgeous, mobile apartment. Yours cheap!

The latest episode of current shows a fantastic retro-fitting of a vintage 1949 Portland Pullman railcar into a swank, modern apartment… which also has the benefit of being mobile, as it can be hitched to any cargo train and hauled across the country for an affordable $1.50 a mile. There were plans to tag the outside of the railcar, but they had to be scrapped when neighboring hobos complained of the declining real estate values that would engender.

This eccentric collection of goods features East German consumer products daringly acquired before the wall was broken down. From foodstuffs to household appliances, East German packaging and product design—sober yet slightly kitsch—reveals a little-known side of German popular history.

This previously published tome has been reissued in an expanded version in celebration of Taschen’s 25th anniversary. Good luck trying to find a copy. They are sold out from the publisher.
