Too often, when “art therapy” gets bandied about, the focus shifts from the person and their art to the process of healing through the art. Though no doubt positively affecting a person’

s rehabilitation, art therapy tends to ignore the artist. Not so with Unconditional, a show featuring the work of 15 artists from the Nathan and Kiyoko Lerner Foundation in conjunction with Thresholds South. For 10 years, the Lerner Foundation has partnered with Thresholds to combine their missions of providing creative opportunities for people with mental illnesses without the stigma overshadowing them. Focusing on the art and not on the illness, these artists have nurtured their own vision, transcending any stigma they may have felt before. All sales go directly to the artist. More Information

Caught Fever: Work by Chris Roberson
Opening Reception: October 16 and 17th 6-10PM
Closes Sunday, October 19th, 2008
Caught Fever is a culmination of faith and fire, booze and bones. The work consists of text on panels, stained wooden sculptures and delicate, collaged drawings. Teetering between a burning desire to rejoice and the lurking presence of the afterlife, the work radiates heat and captures southern gothic in the center of the sun. More Information
